Brainlab Observes World Cancer Day with Message of Education and Innovation

“Our research and development teams are constantly exploring ways to create less invasive cancer treatments, and making those treatments available to as many people as possible, even in the remote corners of the globe,” said Stefan Vilsmeier, CEO and President of Brainlab. “Within our company, we are committed to disease prevention by providing a healthy work environment and educating and encouraging our employees to make healthy lifestyle choices both at work and home.”

According to the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the global cancer epidemic is significant and is set to rise. Currently, there are 8.2 million cancer deaths per year worldwide, almost half of which are patients aged 30 to 69. The global occurrence is expected to rise to 13.2 million per year by 2030 with global cost of care estimated at $458 billion.123

Through cross-disciplinary technologies bridging neuroscience and oncology, and not-for-profit initiatives spanning underserved regions around the globe, Brainlab products and services help clinicians personalize medical treatments, reduce risk to healthy tissue and advance cancer survival rates and improve quality of life. Technologies like Adaptive Hybrid Surgery and Multiple Brain Metastases SRS are available to assist in the treatment of cancer patients while corporate support of the Right.Brain Foundation e.V., brings neuronavigation technology and training to remote areas around the globe.

Corporate collaboration with leading cancer institutions around the globe, including Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, Rush University Medical Center and UCLA Medical Center in the U.S. and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Klinikum der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich in Germany continue to foster innovation while advancing awareness and prevention of cancerous conditions of the brain and body.

“Brainlab is passionate about and proud of the contributions we make each and every day in the fight against cancer,” concluded Vilsmeier. “The company and all of our employees will continue to increase our participation in cancer research and impact on treatment. World Cancer Day is a wonderful opportunity for us to demonstrate our commitment. Together We Can. Treat. Fight. Win.”
