Pew will join HealthSouth Claims Manager Suzy Braden and Southern Pain Society President Geralyn Datz, PhD, at 4 p.m. on Aug. 22, to discuss ways to curb harmful and excessive medical treatment. The panel will examine various workplace, medical and psychological impacts of inappropriate treatment and how to identify and mitigate them.
“With three unique perspectives and lots of audience interaction, panelists will provide strategies for proactively dealing with injuries that often result in inappropriate treatment and polypharmacy regimens,” said Pew.
Author of the popular Evidence-Based blog, Gavin will join WorkersCompensation.com’s Bob Wilson, Consultant and Columnist Peter Rousmaniere and WCI’s On-Line Communications Director Joan Collier for the “Battle of the Bloggers” at 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 23. These opinionated thought leaders will cover a range of workers’ compensation medical, legal and societal issues.
Gavin returns to the podium at 3:15 that afternoon for the “Advancing Pain Treatment” panel, joining Dr. Teresa Bartlett, medical director of Sedgwick Claims Management Services and Dr. Eric Won, president of the Brain Research Laboratory. Panelists will discuss alternative and advanced treatment methods for chronic pain, highlighting pain-management modalities and their outcomes.
“We need to better understand how psychosocial conditions affect pain perception, and help payers embrace non-pharma modalities,” Gavin said.
