The Square Mile magazine Masked Ball has been the city’s most established society event for four years now, and last year raised in excess of £100,000 for the Mayor’s Fund for London. Held at the impressive One Mayfair this year, guests including Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford, cast members from Made in Chelsea and Eastenders star Gary Lucy were treated to Laurent Perrier champagne, gourmet canapés and live entertainment. Performing on the night were Melanie Masson from this year’s X Factor, and Britain’s Got Talent winners Spelbound, who wowed the well-heeled crowd with an astonishing gymnastic display against the backdrop of a holographic light show. Stiltwalkers sporting masquerade masks greeted attendees on the red carpet, before guests were amazed by close-up magicians during the champagne reception. International DJ Ollie Twist kept everyone on the dancefloor until the early hours. Rumours that the Square Mile is sporting more than a few sore heads today are unconfirmed. The ball was sponsored by Chivas Regal, Iceberg Vodka, Asahi beer and Laurent Perrier champagne, among other brands. London’s most successful businessmen and women were proud to socialise and dance the night away for a good cause, raising money through a silent auction, with all profits going entirely to Rays of Sunshine, of which Square Mile is a proud supporter. The amount raised by the auction is yet to be totalled, as guests continued bidding on lots, including a signed Rolling Stones guitar and the Ultimate Super Yacht experience well into the morning. Rays of Sunshine grants wishes for seriously and terminally ill children across the UK, and since its launch over nine years ago has granted over 2,500 individual wishes. Guests headed off into the night clutching luxury gift bags with contents provided by brands such as Floris London, Gilette, Diptyque, Yardley, The Sanctuary Spa and Jo Hansford.
