Latest print market data and senior industry figures at Pira’s brand new event, Executive Retreat: Global Print Markets

However this steady growth will be characterised by a shift within the industry, with packaging accounting for 31% share of the market by 2014 and the digital print sector rising 6.4% to 19.4% between 2009 and 2014. It is this type of in-depth analysis of the printing industry that a brand new event from Pira will utilise, to give senior figures in the industry the tools and data to make the right decisions for the future.

Taking place on 29-30 September 2010 at the Hotel Royal, Geneva, Switzerland, the Executive Print Retreat will shape a reinvented business model for print, set in the context of a much bigger picture.

After a brief industry assessment from Pira International’s expert consultant Neil Falconer, the morning’s agenda ploughs straight into The Future of Print in a Resource Constrained World with insight from PricewaterhouseCooper’s Director Mark Thompson, followed by Future Foundation’s Head of Global trends Dominic Harrison, outlining the latest consumer trends and how the new “normal” will affect the print industry. Clive Milner of News International, Beat Noser of Credit Suisse, Patrick Martell and Lloyd Wigglesworth of St. Ives PLC offer valuable insight into how their organisations are leading the future for print. Before lunch, a leadership exchange will provide a platform for all speakers to take part in a debate surrounding the alternative future scenarios for the print industry over the next 5 years.

Three separate tracks will then explore the following areas: packaging, publishing and transactional/promotional printing. Senior figures of organisations such as Unilever, IPC media, Direct Brands, Bezier, Mediaware Digital, Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide and Prinovis to name but a few will present. This unrivalled programme provides an outstanding forum for examining future drivers for print markets delivered by companies both outside and inside the printing world- those who threaten print, those who drive print and those who thrive on it.

Day two kicks off with a quick round up of the previous day’s findings followed by Pira International’s expert consultant Sean Smyth’s presentation revealing the latest data examining print and printed packaging market developments to 2015, ink and leading consumables, fine paper and board, growth applications and processes, assessing print winners and losers, specific updates on electro photography and inkjet, transactional and transpromo markets. This is followed by an exploration of how social media will change the way business in done by Johann Fueller, Chief Executive of HYVE & MIT Research Affiliate.

The afternoon of day two will comprise two tracks: Future of print innovation and Future of print sustainability. These tracks feature speakers from FESPA, Print Power, Manroland AG, Loughborough Univeristy and Printing Industries of America.

The closing Keynote plenary session on day two focuses on displacement of print by electronic media which features talks from Pierre Geslot, Head of e-paper & Digitalisation Project at Orange/France Telecom and Owen Mitchell, Senior Vice President from Pearson. Expert Consultants from Pira International will then forecast the transformation of the global print industry and examine what it will look like in 2020.

The comprehensive programme will be complemented by various networking and social events, such as a drinks reception and a special “Dinner on the Lake” at the beautiful Lake Geneva.
