Cision does not publish prices. Buyers report paying a median of $12,625 a year (Vendr, 107 purchases), and enterprise contracts average $87,883 (SpendHound, October 1, 2026). The alternatives fall into three groups: other full suites (Meltwater, Muck Rack, Agility PR Solutions), lighter tools with published prices from $120 a month and media-list-plus-distribution subscriptions such as Presswire’s, from $2,700 a year.
Which group is right depends on which part of Cision you actually use. If your team lives in monitoring dashboards, broadcast clips and social listening, the honest answer is that only another full suite replaces it. If you mostly log in to find journalists before a release, you are paying for a suite to use a list, and there are cheaper ways to buy a list.
What Cision costs in 2026
Cision has no public rate card, so every figure in circulation comes from third-party purchasing data.
Cision’s own pricing page, checked on October 19, 2026, is a “Request Pricing” form. It says “Let us help you find the right solution, tailored to your team’s needs and budget” and names no plans and no numbers. The figures below are therefore reported, not published, and each is attributed to the firm that reported it.
| Source | Reported figure (USD) | Basis | Source date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vendr | $12,625 median per year; range $3,150 to $30,368 | 107 purchases | Page marked “Last updated: February 2026” |
| Vendr | $10,000 to $25,000 per year for the Cision media database, 1–3 users, North America | Vendr’s observed outcomes | Same page |
| Vendr | More than $200,000 per year for enterprise deployments with monitoring, distribution and analytics across regions | Vendr’s guide text | Same page |
| SpendHound | $10,618 average per year, companies with 50–1,000 employees | De-identified spend data | Last updated October 1, 2026 |
| SpendHound | $87,883 average per year, companies with 1,000+ employees | De-identified spend data | Last updated October 1, 2026 |
All figures read on the source pages on October 19, 2026. Neither source states VAT treatment. Both Vendr and SpendHound sell procurement and negotiation services, so their pages are written for buyers who are about to negotiate. Sources: Vendr, Cision; SpendHound, Cision; Cision pricing page.
Vendr’s page also explains why the range is so wide. It says Cision licenses are typically sold per named user, that the database, monitoring, distribution, analytics and influencer discovery modules are priced separately, and that contracts often include automatic annual price increases of 3–7%.
Cision’s press release distribution runs through PR Newswire, which also publishes no rate card. eReleases, a PR Newswire reseller, states on its own pricing page that for a 500-word release “the Cision PR Newswire price list shows a range between $715-$865 for a local city/state distribution to more than $1500 for a national press release distribution, plus a $305 setup fee” (read October 19, 2026). Our PR Newswire pricing guide covers that side in detail.
What the money buys
Cision is a full communications suite, and for a large team that uses all of it the price reflects real breadth.
According to Cision’s site, CisionOne covers media monitoring across “print, online, TV, radio, social, podcast & magazine coverage” in real time, reporting and analytics, journalist outreach and social listening. Cision’s affiliated brands include Brandwatch, for consumer intelligence and social media management, and PR Newswire, for distribution. Few vendors cover that much ground under one contract.
The customer it suits is a brand or agency with several people in the platform every day, a leadership team that expects regular coverage and share-of-voice reports, broadcast exposure worth tracking and campaigns in more than one market. For that customer, a cheaper tool that drops broadcast monitoring or analytics is a downgrade, not an alternative. The real question is whether you use enough of Cision to justify a suite price.
Do you need a full PR suite?
You need a suite if monitoring and measurement are daily work; you probably don’t if your main job is finding the right journalists and sending a release.
Signs that a suite earns its cost:
- You need print and broadcast monitoring with clips, not just online alerts.
- Several people build coverage reports for executives or clients each week.
- Social listening has to sit alongside earned media in the same reports.
- You run influencer programs as well as media relations.
- You work across several countries and languages.
Signs that you are paying for capacity you don’t use:
- You log in to build a media list before each release and rarely in between.
- Monitoring reports are exported once a quarter, if at all.
- One or two people hold all the seats.
If you recognize the second list, the cheaper groups below are worth a serious look. If you recognize the first, compare full suites on workflow and negotiate hard.

Every competitor entry was checked on the provider’s or reporter’s page on October 19, 2026. VAT: Presswire’s pricing page says “Prices exclude VAT. Any VAT is shown at checkout before you pay.” Prezly states “All of our prices are exclusive of VAT.” Semrush’s plan page and the third-party reports do not state VAT treatment.
Full-suite alternatives: Meltwater, Muck Rack and Agility
If you use Cision’s monitoring and analytics every day, these are the like-for-like replacements, and none of them publishes a price.
Meltwater. The Meltwater pricing page lists four plans, Starter, Pro, Enterprise and Agency, each marked “Contact Sales”. Its FAQ says most agreements are annual “with a minimum contract length of 12 months” and that there is no self-serve free trial. Vendr’s reported median of $25,800 a year is roughly double its Cision median, so for most teams Meltwater is a change of platform rather than a saving. Our Meltwater pricing guide sets out what drives its quotes.
Muck Rack. Muck Rack’s pricing page lists Starter, Standard and Premier tiers, each marked “Contact us”. It says it “customizes proposals based on team-specific factors like user count and selected modules”, with add-ons that include broadcast monitoring, social listening and press release distribution. Vendr reports a median of $13,000 a year across 80 purchases (range $8,000 to $20,860, page marked February 2026), and SpendHound reports an average of $14,492 for companies with 50–1,000 employees (October 1, 2026). That is Cision-level money, so the case for switching is workflow, not price.
Agility PR Solutions. Agility’s plans page lists media relations with “1.1M+ media contact and outlet profiles”, monitoring across online, broadcast, podcast, print and social, media intelligence and social listening, with newswire distribution as an add-on. It publishes no prices and asks buyers to speak to an expert. We found no third-party price figure for Agility that we could attribute with confidence.
In the UK: Vuelio and Roxhill. Vuelio describes itself as “a modular product meaning you only pay for what you need” and quotes on request. It pairs a media database with a political database, which matters for public affairs teams. Roxhill’s pricing page sets out a combined annual fee for its database and monitoring in four bands: Core (one login), Boutique (three logins, adds distribution), Enterprise (five logins) and Premium (on application). No figures appear on that page (checked in a browser on October 20, 2026); prices come with a quote.
Affordable Cision alternatives with published prices
If what you need is journalists’ details and a way to reach them, tools with published prices run from about $1,440 to $6,550 a year.
Semrush AI PR Toolkit (formerly Prowly). Prowly’s site now says “Prowly is now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit”. Semrush’s plan page lists Base at $149 a month, Pro at $279 and Business at $499, with a seven-day free trial. Semrush says the database holds “over 1 million journalist profiles”, and that you send pitches from your own authenticated domain or a connected Gmail or Outlook inbox. Monitoring is on Pro and Business only, and covers news, blogs, Reddit and YouTube; print and broadcast are not listed. For a marketer doing their own outreach, it is the lowest-cost route to a large database.
Prezly. Prezly’s pricing page lists Essential at $120 a month billed annually ($175 monthly), with one user and up to 5,000 contacts, and Standard at $300 a month billed annually ($350 monthly), with two users and 10,000 contacts. It is a PR CRM, newsroom and email tool built around contacts you already have. Prezly offers curated media lists as a separate service, priced on request, rather than a built-in journalist database.
For monitoring only. Brand24’s source list includes social platforms, news, blogs, podcasts and reviews, and its plans start at $199 a month billed annually ($249 monthly) for three keywords and one user. Google Alerts is free. Neither lists print, TV or radio coverage.
None of these tools is a newswire. They help you find journalists and email them yourself.
Where Presswire fits
Presswire is a narrower option: a media contact database sold with unlimited press release distribution, plus per-release distribution and monitoring, all at published prices.
An annual subscription gives twelve months of access to 620,000+ media contacts, unlimited press release distribution and a complimentary Tracking Report with every release, in the territory you choose.
| Territory | USD | GBP | EUR |
|---|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | $2,700 per year | £2,000 per year | €2,350 per year |
| North America (US and Canada) | $4,000 per year | £3,000 per year | €3,500 per year |
| Europe (includes the UK) | $4,000 per year | £3,000 per year | €3,500 per year |
| Global (all countries) | $6,550 per year | £4,900 per year | €5,700 per year |
Prices exclude VAT; any VAT is shown at checkout before you pay. Source: Presswire’s published rates.
Without a subscription, press release distribution costs $250 per release for one region (the UK, Europe, North America or Asia) or $400 worldwide. Every release gets a human editorial check and test-send, a bespoke media list, no word-count surcharges, publication on presswire.com and our Google News title, greatreporter.com, and syndication to NewsNow, Dow Jones Factiva, LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters and Comtex. Media monitoring is $235 per release, tracking print, online, paywalled and broadcast coverage for up to a month after distribution, or $320 a month for ongoing alerts on up to two keywords. Individual services need no contract or account.
What Presswire does not do should be just as clear. Its price list has no social listening, influencer marketing, AI visibility tracking or analytics dashboards; if you need those, it does not replace Cision. Its database is smaller by count than the 1.1M+ profiles Agility lists or the 1M+ Semrush lists. And it is not the cheapest option here: Prezly and Semrush’s Base plan cost less per year. What the difference buys is distribution: your release goes to newsrooms after an editor has read it, rather than through an email tool you operate yourself.
The comparison with Cision is not like-for-like, but the gap is the point. Vendr reports $10,000 to $25,000 a year for Cision’s media database alone for one to three users in North America. Presswire’s North America subscription is $4,000 a year and includes unlimited distribution. If a list and a reliable way to send are most of what you use, that difference is worth testing. Our media contact database page has the details, and our guide to the most common problems with media databases covers what to check in any database before you buy.
How to switch away from Cision
Check your renewal date and notice terms first, export your lists before the contract lapses, and run a release through the replacement before you cancel.
- Read the renewal clause. Find out whether the contract renews automatically and how much
notice it needs. With the 3–7% annual increases Vendr reports, the renewal is also your best negotiating moment if you stay.
- Export what you own. Media lists, contact notes, saved searches and coverage reports, before
access ends.
- Archive your monitoring history. Year-on-year comparisons need last year’s coverage.
- Overlap for one cycle. Run one release and one monitoring report through the replacement
while you still have Cision, and compare.
Frequently asked questions
Does Cision publish its prices?
No. Cision’s pricing page is a request form with no plans or figures (checked October 19, 2026). Reported figures come from procurement firms: Vendr cites a median of $12,625 a year, and SpendHound cites averages of $10,618 for companies with 50–1,000 employees and $87,883 for larger ones.
What is the cheapest alternative to Cision?
Among tools with published prices, Prezly’s Essential plan is the lowest, at $120 a month billed annually, but it works with your own contacts rather than a journalist database. The cheapest published plan that includes a large journalist database is Semrush’s AI PR Toolkit Base, at $149 a month. For monitoring alone, Google Alerts is free but covers only online sources.
Is Meltwater cheaper than Cision?
The reported figures disagree. Vendr’s medians put Meltwater higher ($25,800 a year against $12,625 for Cision). SpendHound’s enterprise averages point the other way ($64,950 for Meltwater against $87,883 for Cision). Neither vendor publishes prices, so the only reliable comparison is two quotes for the same scope.
Can I buy just a media database without monitoring?
Yes. Vendr reports that Cision’s media database is often bought as a standalone module. Semrush’s AI PR Toolkit includes its database on every plan. Presswire’s database comes with unlimited press release distribution in the territory you choose, from $2,700 a year.
Is Presswire the same company as EIN Presswire?
No. They are different companies. Presswire has been distributing press releases to newsrooms since 2001, from London, with a US presence.
