President Chapo's visit, taking place from July 2 to 4 at the invitation of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, includes high-level bilateral talks and joint participation in the official opening of the Golden Jubilee edition of the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), East Africa's premier international trade and investment exhibition.
The two Heads of State are expected to discuss expanding cooperation across key sectors, including trade, investment, transport, energy, regional connectivity and economic development, while exploring new opportunities to strengthen commercial partnerships that benefit both countries.
According to Tanzania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, the visit reflects the shared commitment of both governments to advancing decades of close political, economic and historical relations while supporting broader regional integration and sustainable development.
President Chapo will also pay a courtesy visit to Maria Nyerere, widow of Tanzania's founding President, Julius Nyerere, in recognition of the enduring legacy of the founding leaders of Tanzania and Mozambique in promoting African liberation, solidarity and regional cooperation.
The visit marks President Chapo's third trip to Tanzania since assuming office in 2024, highlighting the increasing frequency of high-level engagement between the two neighbouring Indian Ocean nations as they seek to expand economic cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties.
A key highlight of the visit is the official opening of the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, which has attracted approximately 3,722 exhibitors from 23 countries, making this year's edition one of the most internationally diverse in the event's history.
Speaking after inspecting exhibition pavilions ahead of the opening ceremony, Tanzania's Minister for Industry and Trade, Judith Kapinga, said the Golden Jubilee edition reflects Tanzania's growing role as a regional hub for trade, investment and industrial development.
"The strong international participation demonstrates increasing confidence in Tanzania's economy, industrial capacity and investment climate. The exhibition continues to provide an important platform for building business partnerships and promoting cross-border trade," she said.
The exhibition showcases products and services spanning manufacturing, agribusiness, technology, services and value-added industries, with a strong focus on innovation, entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Government-supported programmes promoting women- and youth-owned businesses are also prominently featured.
To enhance the experience for exhibitors and visitors, the Tanzania Trade Development Authority has upgraded exhibition infrastructure, including expanded parking facilities, improved internal road networks, and enhanced water and electricity services.
The authority has also introduced new digital services, including a mobile navigation system and the TanTrade Biashara App, enabling visitors to purchase tickets electronically, locate exhibitors and access real-time event information.
As part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, TanTrade will host a special "Golden Jubilee Night" awards ceremony on July 6, where Tanzania's Vice-President Emmanuel Nchimbi will recognise individuals and institutions that have contributed to the growth and internationalisation of the trade fair over the past five decades.
Widely regarded as one of East Africa's leading trade promotion platforms, the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair continues to strengthen Tanzania's position as a gateway for regional commerce, investment and international business engagement, while supporting the country's broader economic diplomacy agenda.
