[PRESSWIRE] DODOMA, Tanzania – 8 February, 2026 — Tanzania will use the Mining Indaba 2026 conference in Cape Town to position itself as a strategic supplier of critical minerals needed for the global energy transition, the Ministry of Minerals said on Thursday.
Mining Minister Anthony Mavunde will lead the Tanzanian delegation to the February 8–12 forum, which brings together governments, mining companies, investors and development finance institutions at a time of intensifying global competition for minerals used in renewable energy, electric vehicles and battery storage.
According to the ministry, Tanzania aims to strengthen its role in global supply chains for strategic minerals as Africa gains prominence in supplying inputs required for clean energy technologies and industrial decarbonisation.
Mavunde is expected to attend a ministerial session hosted by South Africa’s Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe, alongside other African mining ministers, and to take part in high-level discussions with executives from major mining companies, investors and multilateral lenders.
The talks will focus on investment frameworks, policy certainty, capital mobilisation and opportunities in critical and strategic minerals, including those linked to battery production, renewable energy infrastructure and low-carbon technologies, the ministry said.
On the sidelines of the conference, Mavunde is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with investors from the United States, the European Union, Canada and other countries seeking to diversify mineral supply chains away from concentrated markets.
Tanzania will promote investment opportunities across its mining sector while highlighting government policies aimed at value addition, local beneficiation and downstream processing, as it seeks to move beyond raw mineral exports.
The delegation will include officials from the Ministry of Minerals and its agencies, the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), as well as private-sector stakeholders including mining companies, financial institutions and industry associations representing large- and small-scale miners.
Industry groups attending the forum are expected to pursue strategic partnerships, technology transfer and access to international markets, particularly in areas aligned with energy transition minerals.
Mining Indaba 2026 will be held under the theme “Stronger Together: Progress Through Partnerships”, underscoring collaboration between governments, the private sector and development institutions in building resilient, sustainable and competitive mineral supply chains for Africa.
