[PRESSWIRE] Dubai, – — Tanzania and Antigua and Barbuda agreed on Tuesday to strengthen political, economic and people-to-people ties, as leaders from the two Commonwealth members met on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit in Dubai.
Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne discussed expanding cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean, with a focus on trade, investment, tourism, aviation connectivity and education, according to a statement from Tanzania’s presidency.
The two leaders agreed to establish joint technical teams to operationalise cooperation in areas including security collaboration, technology transfer and cultural exchanges.
Browne praised Tanzania’s handling of recent post-election security challenges, citing the establishment of an independent commission of inquiry as evidence of transparency and respect for constitutional order, the statement said.
Samia briefed Browne on ongoing political reforms, including plans for a national reconciliation commission and forthcoming constitutional changes.
Browne invited Samia to attend the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting and announced plans to visit Tanzania later this year.
The engagement forms part of Tanzania’s broader effort to expand South–South cooperation and position itself as a bridge between Africa and the Caribbean within the Commonwealth framework.
· Tanzania and Antigua and Barbuda are both members of the Commonwealth of Nations, a voluntary association of 56 countries.
· The meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit, an annual global forum held in Dubai that brings together heads of state, policymakers and international organisations.
· Tanzania is pursuing an expanded South–South cooperation strategy aimed at strengthening political, economic and cultural ties with countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Global South.
