Tanzania and Norway strengthen partnership to tackle climate challenges

[PRESSWIRE] Dodoma, Tanzania – 10 February, 2026 — Tanzania and Norway have committed to deepening their collaboration to address the pressing challenges of climate change, focusing on the role of local governments in building resilience against climate-related disasters.

In a meeting held in Dodoma, Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, the Minister responsible for the Prime Minister’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), and Ms. Tone Tinnes, the Norwegian Ambassador to Tanzania, discussed ways to bolster cooperation in tackling climate change at the local government level.

The talks were aimed at strengthening efforts to protect communities across Tanzania from the adverse effects of climate change.

The discussions primarily focused on enhancing the working relationship between PMO-RALG and the Norwegian Embassy in Tanzania to address climate-related challenges more effectively. Both sides recognised the need for integrated solutions that address climate change while simultaneously improving social services such as health, education, infrastructure, and local governance.

Prof. Shemdoe expressed gratitude to the Norwegian government for its continued support in Tanzania’s climate change initiatives. He thanked Norway for being a crucial partner in driving development projects that directly benefit Tanzanians and pledged continued collaboration.

“Norway has been one of Tanzania’s key development partners in climate change mitigation and adaptation, and we are committed to strengthening this partnership to achieve tangible results for our people,” he said.

Ambassador Tinnes acknowledged the ongoing diplomatic cooperation between Norway and Tanzania under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, highlighting the positive outcomes this partnership has brought to Tanzanians.
