Samia fronts Tanzania’s investment agenda in Dubai

[PRESSWIRE] Dubai, – — Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan is attending the Global Africa Investment Summit (GAIS) in Dubai, underscoring her government’s focus on economic diplomacy, investor confidence and sustained reform momentum.

The summit is being held on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2026, one of the world’s leading platforms on governance and public policy, the presidency said in a statement.

The engagement will be Samia’s first official international appearance since winning a new mandate in Tanzania’s 2025 general election, signalling policy continuity and a renewed drive to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) to support jobs and growth.

“The visit reflects the strategic direction set out in Vision 2050 and Tanzania’s new foreign policy, which place economic diplomacy at the centre of international engagement,” the statement said.

GAIS is a high-level initiative convened alongside the WGS and led by Akinwumi Adesina, president emeritus of the African Development Bank Group, in partnership with global investors and development institutions.

Officials said the government’s priority in the first 100 days of Samia’s new term is to accelerate job creation, with increased FDI playing a central role in supporting industrialisation, infrastructure development and value addition.

The summit, which runs until Feb. 5, brings together heads of state, policymakers, international financial institutions and private-sector leaders to discuss future-ready governance and investment in emerging markets.

During the visit, Samia is expected to hold bilateral meetings with senior United Arab Emirates officials, reinforcing a long-standing partnership that has delivered investments across ports, logistics, energy and real estate.

She will also meet leaders of international financial institutions and global investors to showcase Tanzania’s improving business climate and pipeline of bankable projects, officials said.

At the WGS, Samia is due to participate in a high-level panel titled “Government and the Future of Investment: An African Perspective” alongside Angolan President João Lourenço, African Union chair, Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama and Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo. The discussion will be moderated by Adesina.

The panel will focus on Africa’s next phase of economic transformation and the role of policy certainty, governance reforms and private capital in driving sustainable growth.

Samia’s participation aligns with Tanzania’s broader development agenda, which prioritises industrialisation, infrastructure expansion, job creation and private sector–led growth under Vision 2050.

The World Governments Summit, now in its 13th edition, is expected to draw leaders from more than 40 countries, ministers from over 150 governments and senior executives from global corporations, providing Tanzania with a high-profile platform to deepen international investment partnerships.
