WORLD’S SECOND-OLDEST MAN DIES AT 113: Efraín Antonio Ríos García Was Oldest Person in Colombia

One of his favorite hobbies was horseback riding, and in his youth he always took horseback rides on a farm, or on the shore near the Cauca River. His parents were highly appreciated and recognized people in the region. He began his studies at the Chamuscados school in Fredonia.

Efraín Antonio Ríos García was born in the countryside of the town of Fredonia, Department of Antioquia, Colombia on 4 April 1910. His legitimate siblings were Emilio, Eloisa, Carlina, Alfredo, Luisa, Francisco, Engracia and Víctor. His father married Carmen Ledesma for the second time and they had three children (Francisco, Carlos and Roberto).

Ríos García married Herminia Uribe. The couple had 18 children. They were married for 80 years. As of April 2023, he had over 80 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Also as of April 2023, ten of his 18 children were alive.

Efraín’s family would like to thank the entire international community for the appreciation, love and respect they had to Mr. Ríos García. He will be laid to rest in the city of Itagüí, in the company of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and acquaintances of Mr. Ríos García.

After his passing, the world’s second-oldest man (with confirmed age) is now 112-year-old Gisaburō Sonobe of Japan. The world’s oldest man remains Juan Vicente Pérez Mora of Venezuela, age 114.
