A delegation of experts from Tanzania’s Ministry of Minerals, led by Assistant Commissioner for Mineral Value Addition Engineer Modest Apolinary, held talks on June 1, 2026 with Sheikh Mansour Bin Jabour Bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Al Mansour Group and a member of Qatar’s royal family.
The discussions focused on potential investment opportunities and areas of cooperation in Tanzania’s mining industry as part of the government’s broader strategy to attract strategic foreign investment into the country’s natural resources sector.
The engagement follows an earlier visit to Qatar by Tanzania’s Minister for Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, in February 2026 aimed at strengthening investment ties between the two countries.
During the meeting, both sides explored investment opportunities across the mineral value chain, particularly in critical and strategic minerals increasingly in demand globally.
Al Mansour Group expressed interest in investing in value-addition activities involving gold, nickel, cobalt and iron — sectors considered central to Tanzania’s industrialisation strategy and efforts to increase domestic processing of mineral resources before export.
The discussions also covered potential cooperation in the manufacturing and supply of mining machinery and equipment used in mineral exploration, drilling, extraction and processing operations.
As part of the proposed collaboration, Tanzania’s State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) is expected to conduct an assessment of the equipment needs of small-scale miners to identify priority technologies and machinery required to improve exploration and mining productivity across the country.
The two sides further discussed cooperation in technical training and professional knowledge exchange for mining sector specialists, particularly in mineral exploration, drilling technologies, project management and financial literacy.
Officials said the partnership could contribute to strengthening technical capacity and improving operational efficiency in Tanzania’s mining projects.
In addition to mining, the discussions extended to potential investment in fertiliser production using raw materials available in Tanzania.
The initiative is expected to support increased fertiliser availability, reduce production costs for farmers and contribute to agricultural growth and food security.
Speaking during the meeting, Engineer Modest Apolinary said Tanzania’s Ministry of Minerals is ready to work closely with Al Mansour Group in mineral exploration, extraction, value addition and human capital development to ensure mutual economic benefits from the partnership.
Tanzania’s Ambassador to Qatar, Habibu Mohamed, said the country continues to position itself as one of Africa’s most attractive investment destinations due to its political stability, investor-friendly policies and legal frameworks designed to protect investment capital.
“We welcome Al Mansour Group to invest in Tanzania and take advantage of the numerous opportunities available in the mining, industrial and agricultural sectors,” Ambassador Habibu said.
For his part, STAMICO Director General Dr Venance Mwasse said the corporation is prepared to cooperate with the company in all areas where investment interest has been expressed.
He noted that such cooperation could help expand investment flows, encourage the use of modern technologies, strengthen exploration and mining activities and increase the contribution of the mining sector to Tanzania’s economic growth.
The talks between officials from Tanzania’s Ministry of Minerals, STAMICO and Al Mansour Group are being viewed as a significant step toward strengthening economic cooperation between Tanzania and Qatar.
The Tanzanian delegation is expected to continue engagements with other investment companies in Qatar as part of ongoing efforts to market investment opportunities in Tanzania’s mining and industrial sectors.
