Hawksmoor is on the World’s Best Steak Restaurants individual list too at number 23, alongside Brat and Ibai — contributing to London being one of the best-represented cities in the world.
Since the list launched in 2019, it’s become an industry benchmark — the Champions League of the meat world — and Hawksmoor has been a regular fixture since day one. In fact, this year marks their seventh consecutive year on the list, and the only restaurant group to have appeared on all of the Top Five Multiple Outlets lists since that category was introduced, this year in at No. 2.
Flying the Hawksmoor flag on this year’s World’s Best individual list is Hawksmoor Air Street, the Piccadilly jewel that opened in 2012 in a curving Art Deco space overlooking Regent Street. All stained glass, mirror-backed banquettes and shimmering light, it’s definitely one of the prettiest Hawksmoors, and a favourite with theatre-goers, a stroll from all the best shows in the West End and Soho.
Hawksmoor is full of meat geeks, with a habit of obsessing over dry-ageing, charcoal grilling, and impeccable sourcing. Although they do tend not to talk themselves up, they have instead quietly built a steakhouse that others look up to — a B-Corp company with character, integrity, a Sunday roast that’s consistently been voted the best, and a world-class, award-winning drinks programme. And, of course, some of the world’s best steaks.
Almost 20 years in business, while they still feel fresh and dynamic, they’re also as polished and accomplished as a group of restaurants gets — ready to rock and roll, for date night or a working lunch, but just as happy to have a sit down with your mum for a chat. Really, you can take them anywhere.
The Hawksmoor family has grown from its first opening in Spitalfields, in 2006 to 13 restaurants across four countries, with seven in London, and one each in Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Dublin, New York and Chicago. Every Hawksmoor reflects its own local neighbourhood, just as it’s connected by that shared, original London ethos — do things properly, respect the craft, and give people incredible food (and a cold Martini) in a beautiful room.
