Develop green spaces in Ireland with EU Space technologies

1

The 1st CASSINI Hackathon is a bold initiative to connect hackers to space by using geospatial information from Copernicus Earth observation data and its services and/or positioning technologies from Galileo & EGNOS. From 18-20 June, hackers across 10 European countries will be able to access this data and create innovative products and services that will start ‘Digitising Green Spaces’. The hackathon is open to anyone that has a passion for nature, space technologies and entrepreneurship.

“The 1st CASSINI Hackathon is a great opportunity for us to showcase the many applications of these technologies to people who have the skills to imagine and create innovative, sustainable, and cost-efficient solutions for our future,” said Catherine Kavvada, ‎Director, Directorate B – Innovation & Outreach, Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space, European Commission. We are looking forward to seeing all the ways in which participants will look to digitise green spaces using data and signals from the Copernicus, Galileo, & EGNOS programmes.”

Potential hackers have three challenges that aim to improve and protect green spaces: #1 Discover your city / #2 Staying fit & healthy / #3 Protecting our rural areas. The CASSINI Hackathon Ireland will focus on keeping urban green spaces clean, making cycling safer, and protecting rural areas for outdoor activities.

The CASSINI Hackathon Ireland is organised by the National Space Centre, Europe’s most westerly teleport and Ireland’s only commercial ground station. All teams will benefit from pre-event workshops to help gain new skills, form teams, and generate creative ideas. Find out more about the CASSINI Hackathons at hackathons.cassini.eu/ireland
