Develop green spaces in Greece with EU Space technologies

1

The 1st CASSINI Hackathon is a bold initiative to connect hackers to space by using geospatial information from Copernicus Earth observation data and its services and/or positioning technologies from Galileo & EGNOS. From 18-20 June, hackers across 10 European countries will be able to access this data and create innovative products and services that will start ‘Digitising Green Spaces’. The hackathon is open to anyone that has a passion for nature, space technologies and entrepreneurship.

“The 1st CASSINI Hackathon is a great opportunity for us to showcase the many applications of these technologies to people who have the skills to imagine and create innovative, sustainable, and cost-efficient solutions for our future,” said Catherine Kavvada, ‎Director, Directorate B – Innovation & Outreach, Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space, European Commission. We are looking forward to seeing all the ways in which participants will look to digitise green spaces using data and signals from the Copernicus, Galileo, & EGNOS programmes.”

Potential hackers have three challenges that aim to improve and protect green spaces: #1 Discover your city / #2 Staying fit & healthy / #3 Protecting our rural areas. The CASSINI Hackathon Greece will focus on creating pocket parks, creating rural playgrounds, and protecting forests from floods, and fire.

The CASSINI Hackathon Greece will be organised by Corallia, an incubator with a vision to develop an environment that allows innovation and entrepreneurship to flourish. Find out more about CASSINI Hackathons at https://hackathons.cassini.eu/greece!
