KATE BUSBY PRESENTS ‘BIRTH’ AT THE FREUD GALLERY, LONDON

Excited at being offered the opportunity of exhibiting at Freud in central London, Busby has produced a unique body of work for the show, previously unseen.

Guests are invited to ‘read’ the linear sequence of photo panels offering a visual interpretation of how a Venus-like goddess came to be, culminating in a centre-piece strongly inspired by Botticelli’s ubiquitous painting.

The exhibition also marks Busby’s first public acknowledgement of her own adoption. As well as being an exploration of the love story that leads to birth, her photographs are driven by a desire to examine her own mixed North African and Middle Eastern heritage, equally important as her adopted culture.

The preview will be a charity fundraiser for the St Francis Children’s Society in Milton Keynes, an adoption agency local to the artist and has in the last sixty years found families for over 2,000 children. All photographic works are available to buy throughout the duration of the exhibition.

The exclusive preview opening night for the “Birth” exhibition is January 5th from 7 – 11pm at FREVD, in the basement of 198 Shaftesbury Avenue, London WC2H 8JL.

The nearest tube stations are Holborn and Tottenham Court Road.
