Glide Video Texting App for Android Gets More Social

The most prominent is a new social discovery feature, which lets Glide users video message with interesting new people based on location, demographics or recent activity.

Glide, the world’s first and only instant video messenger, leverages proprietary, patent-pending streaming video technology to let users send and receive video messages instantaneously. When a user taps record, the video message is simultaneously broadcast live to recipients and stored to the cloud for on-demand viewing at any time. This makes communication much faster and simpler than sending a video as an email or SMS attachment and more convenient than video calling. With Glide, video conversations no longer need to be scheduled in advance and users don’t have to wait minutes to receive responses to their video messages.

“Reviews of our 4½ star-rated Android app describe how quick and convenient video messaging is with Glide, but our users have also requested a number of new features. With this update, we’ve addressed their top demands and given users a new set of features that will make them love Glide even more,” said Adam Korbl, Chief Product & Marketing Officer at Glide. “For example, many of our users already share their Glide IDs on social networks, indicating their desire to video text with new people. In response, we built the ‘Discover People’ feature to help Glide users more easily connect with others in the Glide Network, which includes 10M+ users in the United States alone.”

New features in Glide for Android include:

Discover People – Find new people to chat with by browsing profiles of nearby or recently active Glide users.

New Message – Glide users can now tap the new hot pink camera button in the Chats menu to record and review a video message, and then decide which friends or group chats to share it with. Of course, users can still live stream video messages to others within a chat.

Group Naming – Users can add distinct names to personalize and better identify group chats.

Muting Group Chats – Participants in a group chat can eliminate distractions by muting notifications of new messages in a group chat for a select period of time.

“In addition to ‘Discover People’, we have addressed another popular request from our users. The hot pink ‘New Message’ button lets users quickly capture and review spontaneous moments prior to sending. After the moment is captured, they can then decide who to instantly share that video with,” added Korbl. “By giving Glide users the flexibility to choose whether to livestream a message within an existing chat, or first record and review before sending, we are making video communications even more accessible for our growing community. We can’t wait to see how our users react to this significant update for Android!”

About Glide

Founded in May 2012, Glide is the brainchild of Ari Roisman, Jonathan Caras and Adam Korbl – three young entrepreneurs who live thousands of miles away from their family and friends. Frustrated by the difficulties keeping in touch across time zones, the trio created a new way to communicate instantly using video. Glide is 100% free and available for iOS and Android.
