After 20 years of working together, Sydney Water Corporation renewed its trust in Veolia through a 15-year extension to its Operations & Maintenance contract for the water treatment plants of Wyuna Water, which is owned jointly by IFM Investors and Veolia.
The contract is for operations at plants located to the south of Sydney, in Woronora (24 km) and Illawarra (40 km). With a combined production capacity of 370 million liters of water a day, the two plants supply water of very high quality to more than 500,000 people in Sydney and the Illawarra region.
Both plants provide a high environmental performance—the Illawarra plant includes a hydroelectric facility that enables it to be entirely self-sufficient in energy—and will benefit from the Wyuna Science and Technology Agreement, which supports research and development programs in the areas of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater.
This contractual innovation will contribute to taking up the environmental challenges of Australia, which is the planet’s most arid continent and particularly sensitive to climate change.
