London based GroupSpaces Raises Investment From New Index Seed Fund and Silicon Valley Heavyweights

London, England. 1 July 2010. GroupSpaces, the go-to site for simple online management and administration of real-world groups, today announced it has secured a $1.3 million investment round from Index Ventures and a leading angel investor consortium including Dave McClure, Chris Sacca, Simon Levene, Meagan Marks, Ariel Poler and Quincy Smith of CODE Advisors.

Existing investors Stephen Bullock and Simon and Michael Blakey of Avonmore Developments also participated in the round. Index Ventures partner, Mike Volpi, will take a board seat.


Cable and Wireless Worldwide has announced the Early Adopters Programme (EAP) for its enterprise cloud computing solution. Available for the first participants in early July, the EAP is intended to refine the roadmap to the adoption of cloud computing for enterprises. The programme will help shape the consultative approach and migration strategies C&W Worldwide will use to help its customers move to its enterprise cloud computing solution.

FA signs Scancom as their official BlackBerry supplier

UK – Scancom today announced that the PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association) has chosen Scancom.co.uk based in Leicester as their official Mobile Solutions provider.

Scancom provided the full BlackBerry Enterprise Solution, handsets and Orange airtime.

Tax to be placed on misuse of English language

The United Kingdom Home Office has proposed a new ‘English Language Tax’ aimed at tourists and foreign workers, with the intention of raising £4.5 billion during the scheme’s first 12 months.

A Home Office spokesman explained: ”An electronic chip will be issued at passport control and fitted to all incoming non-UK visitors. The chip will monitor any misuse of the English Language and a small tax will be levied on each mispronounced word.”
