Even Death Row is hit by the downturn

Martin O’Malley, Governor of Maryland, was quoted by the New York Times in February as stating that capital cases cost three times as much as homicide cases where the death penalty is not sought. Capital cases are expensive because the trials tend to take longer and require more lawyers and more costly expert witnesses. They are also far more likely to lead to multiple appeals.

It’s hard not to let the sarcasm sneak into one’s discourse when economic factors determine the institutional taking of human lives. Particularly interesting is the rhetoric because it suggests the even the death penalty is a commodity that can not be afforded in these economically-restrained times (>>More http://www.t-post.se/show.asp?issue=44).

And so, “Death Penalty Economy Measure” designed by David Foldvari, was born, and features on our latest issue of T-post.

David is one of our favourite illustrators at the moment, he is a Hungarian whose spent most of his life living in the UK. We could talk about his dark humour, eastern European roots and amazing craftsmanship, but instead direct you to his website at www.davidfoldvari.co.uk as his illustrations speak for themselves.

Offbeat news + graphic T-shirt = T-post, the world’s first wearable magazine.

Every six weeks, subscribers receive a new issue in the mail. News story on the inside. Artist interpretation on the front. All-around conversation piece.

Why?

For our subscribers, it’s an opportunity to share something interesting about the world, about them, and start a dialogue with a complete stranger.

For us, it’s a way to use fashion and art to spread the word about things that are important to us and the world by using one of the best pop culture mediums ever invented – the graphic t-shirt. Of course, we couldn’t do this without the help of our subscribers, who now span over 50 countries.

Every time they wear an issue of T-post, it means another interpretation of the original story. It becomes their own depending on how they choose to talk about it. And information spreads like a game of Chinese whispers.

About T-post:

The idea was born back in 2004 as a fun project amongst friends. We started out by making the first issue in just five copies. But the word began to spread and the rest, as they say, is history.

Indeed, T-post was recently featured in the Wall Street Journal, you can see the article here: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124233414135520897.html

A subscription costs 26 EUR per T-shirt, and can be delivered anywhere in the world. All shipping costs are included in that price.
